Guides that answer real questions

Useful answers. Better decisions.

Understand call routing, number portability and business phone costs before making a commitment.

  • Planning
  • Routing
  • Porting
  • Reliability

Practical explanations to help you compare business phone options and prepare for a provider change. These guides describe general concepts; actual service terms depend on your approved plan and written quote.

  • Guide 01

Hosted PBX versus traditional phone systems

A hosted PBX moves the central call-control service to a provider-hosted environment instead of requiring a business to own and manage all central PBX equipment on site. Review connectivity, device compatibility, support and recurring fees when comparing solutions.

  • Guide 02

    Designing an auto attendant

Start with the calls customers make most often. Keep the menu short, group related departments, and plan an after-hours route. Example: incoming call → menu → sales or support → ring group → voicemail.

  • Guide 03

Preparing to port business phone numbers

Collect the exact account information required by your current carrier and confirm eligibility before making a cutover plan. Keep existing service active until the transfer is coordinated and verified.

Deployment guide

Is your network ready for business VoIP?

Use this assessment before placing an order. Completing it does not certify performance or compatibility; your proposed provider and network administrator should validate the configuration.

  • Internet stability

Measure real-time packet loss, latency and jitter during peak office usage. Discuss available upload capacity and traffic contention.

  • Firewall and routing

Review the provider’s supported SIP/RTP requirements, NAT behavior, firewall rules and SIP ALG recommendations. Avoid changing settings without a validated design.

  • Power and endpoints

Check compatible phones, PoE availability, UPS coverage for switches and routers, and fallback procedures during power loss.

  • Emergency calling

Confirm each required E911 service location, user/device assignment, registered address, emergency-routing limitations and staff procedures.

Pre-cutover validation

  • Test inbound and outbound calling under expected network load.
  • Verify auto attendants, ring groups, transfers, voicemail and business-hours rules.
  • Review supported failover and forwarding behavior with the provider.
  • Confirm emergency-calling registration and provider-approved test procedures.
  • Coordinate number transfers before cancelling existing service.
  • Document the support contacts and contingency process for cutover.

Network readiness and call quality depend on equipment, provider requirements and site conditions. This guide is educational and is not a performance guarantee or acceptance test.

  • Guide 04

    Planning calling continuity

Document what should happen if the office loses power or internet access. Review any provider-supported forwarding or failover options, employee procedures, and network requirements. Do not assume every plan provides identical failover capability.

  • Guide 05

What to bring to a quote review

Licensed-user count, offices, numbers, devices, calling departments, hours, optional capabilities and the current provider. A written quote is the authoritative offer, not an online estimate.
